The Inspo
One super early morning in June, I wandered around Seaside Center looking for painting inspiration for some plein air art near the beach. While strolling and people-watching, I kept noticing others with massive iced coffee cups, and the basic white girl in me started salivating.
I soon discovered the origin was this cute little Italian grocery store called Modica Market, so of course I took my caffeine-addicted self inside for a very stiff bean juice on the rocks. Upon walking out, I decided to park myself at an empty umbrella-covered table across from a place famous for their pickleback shots and all things pickle. I loved the colorful restaurant front, the pickle-shaped sign, the flowers overflowing from a rolling metal bucket, and the way the morning shadows fell across it all. So naturally, I pulled everything from my Mary Poppins-esque paint bag of endless items to begin painting a 5x7 souvenir of my morning stroll.
Eventually, I became so lost in the tiny details and the "artist flow" that I completely lost track of time. The sun shifted overhead, my shady spot disappeared, and I realized a little too late that I was getting sunburned. I finished the painting just in time, as one of those quick early-summer showers began rolling into Seaside, and it's a piece I'm so proud to have completed in the Florida elements.
