Hi, I’m Kelcie Hathcock
Photographer turned painter, frequent traveler, professional collector of creative hobbies, and the human behind Feathered Fiasco.
I’m based in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, where I turn meaningful photographs into watercolor paintings and photograph the people, pets and places that make life feel like yours.
I took the scenic route to get here.
I never really told people I wanted to be an artist.
I had always been creative, and some part of me knew I was supposed to do something with it. But growing up, the term “starving artist” was tossed around less like a career option and more like a warning label. So I did what felt responsible and chose the safer path.
Apparently, creativity is persistent.
The practical path wasn’t really a detour.
Photography found me first. I’ve had a camera in my hand for more than 20 years, and it eventually became my doorway into a 13-year career in marketing.
I spent those years helping businesses figure out who they were and how to tell their stories. I created photography, video, graphics, campaigns and plenty of carefully chosen words. Marketing may have been the practical path on paper, but creativity found its way into nearly everything I did.
It taught me to notice the details that make a story worth telling, understand how imagery can make someone feel something, and turn a messy collection of ideas into something meaningful.
After spending so many years bringing other people’s visions to life, I started wondering what it would look like to create something of my own.
Then watercolor found me.
What began as a “let’s see if I can actually do this” experiment quickly turned into a camera roll full of paintings, an ever-growing collection of art supplies and the realization that I had found something that made me ridiculously happy.
I started painting my favorite travel memories, friends’ pets, meaningful homes, wedding photographs and all the little moments that deserved more than a permanent home in someone’s camera roll.
Feathered Fiasco is me finally listening to that quiet voice that always knew I was meant to create. It brings together everything I’ve learned through photography, marketing, storytelling and art—and gives me the chance to use it all to create something personal for you.
I may have taken the long way around, but honestly, that feels pretty fitting for a business with “Fiasco” in the name.
